News and Highlights
Our MissionWylde Green United Reformed Church aims to:
At the centre of our life is the worship of God.You are warmly welcomed to join us on Sundays: 11.00 Family Service 18.30 Evening Service Throughout the Family Service, a crèche is available for small children. Other children and young people are in the main part of the service for this first half hour or so before moving into their own age group activities. Several times a year the whole church family worships together for the entire service, including Parade Services, when we are joined by the uniformed organisations from our church, and for festival services. Baptisms and dedications of the children of churchgoing parents take place during the Family Service, and blessings of children of parents who are not frequent worshippers. For our evening service we regularly join with other churches in the area. On the second Sunday of the month (alternate months) we host a Service of Healing. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month in the evening and the third Sunday in the morning. Everyone present is invited to participate and receive the bread and wine, but there is no obligation to do so. Prayers are said in the church porch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9.40.
Space @ Wylde GreenAre you a person who believes in God, but thinks that church is not for you? Then a new initiative might just be what you’re after. Open to all, but specifically with the 30 something age group in mind, Space @ Wylde Green is a relaxed occasion to meet new people and listen to a mixture of live music and contemporary songs to get you thinking. Held on a Sunday evening, it provides a good opportunity to relax and unwind in a candle-lit setting before the hectic week ahead. As far as possible all food and drink served in the café is Fairtrade, organic, local and often home cooked. For further information email space@wyldegreenurc.org.uk
Ministry at Wylde GreenWylde Green United Reformed Church has a team ministry with two ordained URC ministers, Ken and Meriel Chippindale, and a team of Elders. Each Elder has a list of church members and friends for whom they have pastoral oversight. Ken leads the majority of services with Meriel taking most Parade Services for the uniformed organisations. The church also has several lay preachers who lead worship from time to time. The FURY group of young people are also regularly involved, under the guidance of our Youth Worker, Pete Mandeville, and our Gap Year Student, Peter Higgins. With the Ministers, the Elders are responsible for the day to day running of the church, although a whole collection of people are involved with everything from making the tea after services, helping out with family church groups on a Sunday to maintenance of the buildings and finance. As a church we are committed to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. That is why we have adopted a Child Protection Policy for our youth and children's work and the Declaration of a Safe Church for the whole church family.
